Robert J. Pollard graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1970, after having been one of the first students in Dr. Murray Fowler’s zoo and wildlife medicine class.
Rob attended his first Camelid vet conference in 1984 in Santa Cruz CA. Since then he has compiled a long list of Camelid education classes both as a student and as a speaker.  He has attended every annual Camelid vet conference at UCD, Colorado State, Ohio State University, and Oregon State University.
He has served as a vet screener for ARI and ILR for Alpacas and Llamas to be imported from both Chile and Bolivia.
As a speaker he has been a contributor for all the LANA conferences since 1995, and for AOBA in 1996, and 1998.
He has been a contributor for many publications including the Camelid chapter for the book  Hand-Rearing Wild and Domestic Mammals
His awards include 1993 International Llama Assoc's. Pushmi-Pullyu award.   2000 CAL-ILA's  Dr. Murray E. Fowler Award,  and the Humdinger Award from LANA in 2001.
He and his wife Suzi moved to Sonora, in the Sierra foothills, and started a small animal practice. As llamas became more popular in the area in 1983, Dr. Pollard used his wildlife medicine experience to work on llamas, and to help the new llama owners. He and his wife own 50 llamas, with usually a dozen or more other llamas visiting their Valley of the Llama Ranch for breeding, birthing, or medical care.
